Junior Chef's Series at The Silo

Reviving a Beloved Tradition

We’re thrilled to announce the revival of The Silo Kids Cooking School, a cherished tradition originally created by Ruth Henderson in the 1990s. This year, as The Silo celebrates its remarkable 53rd anniversary, we’re honoring Ruth's legacy by reintroducing one of her favorite programs, now known as the Junior Chef's Series. It's the perfect blend of past and present—a program that nurtures creativity, builds confidence, and hones culinary skills for kids, all in a fun and safe environment.

The Junior Chef's Series brings back the popular Kids Cooking and Baking Summer Programs. What’s more exciting? Classes will be led by aspiring young chefs, expertly guided by adult chefs to ensure the ideal mix of talent, skill-building, and safety. Your child will learn hands-on kitchen techniques, discover the joy of cooking, and come away inspired.

Why Choose the Kids Cooking and Baking Summer Camp?

Our program is designed with your family’s needs in mind. Kids have the flexibility to choose just one class or attend all five in a week—it’s entirely up to you! Each class stands alone, so whether your child attends one or the full series, they’ll walk away with new skills and delicious recipes. Every session is dynamic, fun, and educational, as kids learn to prepare simple meals while exploring topics such as the importance of healthy eating and where our food comes from.

Additionally, as a United Nations Accredited Nonprofit, we are fully committed to advancing the U.N.'s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These classes specifically support SDG #3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG #4 (Quality Education). To deepen their understanding, kids will engage in short, fun presentations on topics such as reducing food waste, avoiding single-use plastics, and the role of sustainable eating in creating a fairer world for all.

Program Schedule and Details

The program will run from June 23rd to August 1st, with classes offered from 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM. Children will have the chance to make a variety of meals while learning basic kitchen skills and gaining confidence along the way. Each participant will receive the following:

  • A custom Youth Chef's Series apron
  • A chef's hat to wear with pride
  • A certificate of accomplishment as a Junior Chef

Whether they master knife skills one day or bake delightful treats the next, your child is guaranteed to learn something exciting, gain valuable hands-on experience, and, most importantly, have a blast!
