Introducing The Silo’s Indoor Winter "Farmers" Market
Nov 04, 2024

We at The Silo are thrilled to announce the launch of our Indoor Winter "Farmers" Market—a project rooted in community, creativity, and sustainability. This isn’t just another farmers market; it’s a vibrant gathering space where fresh flavors, heartfelt craftsmanship, and meaningful connections come to life.
Our goal? To create something truly unique that transcends the boundaries of a traditional farmers market. Step into an atmosphere buzzing with warmth as the melodies of a live piano player fill the air. Stroll through a carefully curated selection of handpicked farmers, offering only the finest organic and first-class products. Each vendor represents a commitment to quality and sustainability, providing ingredients that tell the story of our land.
A Market Like No Other
But it’s not just about shopping; The Silo’s market is an experience. At the heart of it all is our café, where you can savor mouthwatering creations prepared by Chef Dino Kolitsas, the Director of The Silo Cooking School. Chef Dino’s dishes spotlight the extraordinary ingredients from our farmers, letting their natural flavors shine in every bite.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the market, Chef Dino shares,
"We really want to incorporate all the elements from Ruth Henderson’s incredible contributions to our community in the past—like the Plow to Plate program at New Milford Hospital and her beloved farm-to-table events and markets. This project is about honoring her vision while reimagining it into something even more fun, interesting, and inclusive. We want to capture the essence of our community in all aspects, from health to creativity, in a safe and inviting atmosphere."
Looking to the Future
The Silo Indoor Winter "Farmers" Market is designed to grow. Soon, we plan to introduce an arts and crafts section exclusively showcasing youth vendors. This initiative is about more than creating a platform for young artists and crafters—it’s about fostering their entrepreneurial spirit. It’s a way to encourage the next generation of creators to take the leap and share their talents with the world.
Alessandro Piovezahn, President of Hunt Hill Farm, explains,
"Our goal is to serve our community and provide opportunities to incentivize social entrepreneurship, especially among our young artists and crafters. We hope to create a space where everyone feels valued and has the opportunity to shine. This project reflects several key UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Wellbeing (Goal 3), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Life on Land (Goal 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17)."
A Vision to Sustain
While we are still working on a final name for this project, our mission couldn’t be clearer. We aim to build something that is self-sustaining, meaningful, and—most importantly—a gift to the community. One of our primary goals is to ensure the market remains free of charge for participating farmers and youth vendors, ensuring accessibility and equity for all.
The proof of concept begins now, and we can’t wait to see how this initiative evolves. Join us in this exciting, transformative chapter of The Silo—a place where tradition meets innovation, and community thrives.
Mark your calendars and be part of the story. Together, we’re shaping something exceptional. Welcome to The Silo’s Indoor Winter "Farmers" Market—the beginning of something extraordinary.
